My son loves this book. (He's 2 and a half.) He really loved the pictures and the details. The first time we read it, he asked me to read it again. Then we read it again. Before we were through we had read it four times in a row. It's still one of his favorites, and he requests it often. It's fun to learn all of the names of the baby animals, and to look at all of the cute felt animals. We have fun changing voices and making animal sounds as we go. No, I don't think this is a real page turner for an adult looking for a complicated plot (see a previous review), but for a pre-schooler, it's perfect. We love it.

I love Clare Beaton's illustrations! This one follows a little dog asking all sorts of baby animals what a baby kangaroo is called. My kids are always entertained by this book, and I could look at her amazing fabric art for hours!! This is actually not my most favorite book to read aloud, a lot of repetition, but it doesn't deter the kids and they start to say it with me. Try, How Big is a Pig or There's a Billy Goat in the Garden. Those are my favorites!!
I bought the boardbook version of this and was disappointed to find out that there is NO actual fabric texture to the book. It's only pictures. Kids love to touch and feel and this book looked like it had all the fabric detail a kid would want to touch but they are just pictures there is no actual fabric. Other than that, the book is a wonderful story for little kids, it's repetitive and even then, they ask you to read it again and again. You will know th ebook by heart after a couple of times.
