A Ranger Tale Epic Fantasy Romance Series Tallenmere Book One eBook Mysti Parker

Mysti Parker reconciled me with Fantasy. Don't take me wrong, I always liked Fantasy. I just hadn't read one in a while. There was a time when that was all I ever read so maybe I got tired of it. The formula for Fantasy (elves, dwarves, orcs, etc) is usually always the same. Authors are doing all they can to create new worlds. While Parker's story has its own, the emphasis is on the characters and on the small details around them, so it's through them that we learn of their world and not with long descriptions.

The story is written in the first person POV. The protagonists telling the story alternate throughout the book, but it's well defined so I never got lost. While I found the story itself a bit predictable in a way that I could guess where it was heading, it never deterred me from continuing to read. The words flowed on the pages and the first thing I noticed I was at the end.

The characters were great; however, there were times where I wanted to shake the main protagonist, Caliphany, and tell her, "Why do you react so badly to what he tells you? Why the sudden change of heart?"

Now, people who know me know that I hold a special place in my heart for male protagonists. Galadin didn't fail me. Like Cali, he had his moments, but his felt more natural, less sudden…less PMS. As for Jayden, he left me cold at first, but I warmed up to him, and now I'm looking forward to read his own adventure in the second book of the series.

Recommendations: you don't need to be fan of fantasy to love this book. Sure, there are elves, wood elves, dark elves, high elves, dwarves, even fae people with wings, but don't let that stop you if you're not a fan of the genre. They are just characters in a great story.

A Ranger Tale Epic Fantasy Romance Series Tallenmere Book One eBook Mysti Parker Reviews

*Full Review can be found here http//therevboard.com/2014/12/06/the-wordsmith-vision-of-controversy-on-a-rangers-tale/ *

Caliphany Aranea (niece of the King Leopold Vaeloria of the Leogard Kingdom), Jayden Ravenwing (lead scout of the L.I.O. for the Leogard Kingdom), and Galadin Trudeaux (son of a merchant father and an elf mother in the Southern Sea) are the main characters in Mysti Parker's 313 page read, “A Ranger’s Tale.” The story is told from their points of view as the story progresses, which is an intriguing approach from Mrs. Parker. RISKY (due to keeping track of 3 in depth personalities), but intriguing.

Callphinay is the niece of King Leopold who yearns for more in her life than just being something that her father wants her to be in regards to his "perfect image." A chance (and unexpected) meeting of a young man named Galadin Trudeaux would send her life into a tumultuous whirlwind where each decision she makes will either help or harm not only the lives around her, but her very own life.

There is great detail in the description of the surroundings, environmental changes, characters’ presence, appearances, mannerisms, and personalities. I actually felt the air during the changes in the seasons, the emotions on the faces of everyone in the book, the vivid colors of what the characters saw during their travels.

Mrs. Mysti Parker did an AMAZING JOB with the introduction and utilization of the Minor Characters, which is one of my BIGGEST GRIPES in stories. If the Minor Character(s) are used properly, they can move the story in ways ANY excellent writer would be proud. Mrs. Parker did the utilization of these characters a Great Service!

Mysti Parker’s “A Ranger’s Tale” is a Renaissance lover’s dream! I love stories about kings, noblemen and noblewomen, mages, wizards, and the like as well as things related to the era. I love them more when a talented writer with an incredible imagination can turn it into a work of art.
This was a solid 4.5 stars.

I really enjoyed "A Ranger's Tale." It was a nice blend of fantasy fiction (elves, trolls, magic, yay!) and romance. The author did an excellent job setting up a fantastical world but made it feel familiar and accessible at the same time.

Caliphany (or Cali, as we later come to know her) is a young mage, niece to the king, and her parents' only surviving child. Her father has been planning a safe life for her, including marriage to a man she finds exceedingly boring. She longs for adventure and would give anything for a chance to change her fate. When Cali meet Galadin, a former pirate-turned-merchant, it seems fate has given her the chance.

Cali and Galadin's love story was sweet. I also enjoyed watching Cali's journey as she explored and strengthened the woman she wanted to become. I thought I had an idea where the story was going to go, the conflicts the lovers would have to face, and was happily proved wrong. There were plenty of twists to keep me interested. I don't want to say anything more and spoil the surprises!

There was a clear undercurrent within the story of a long-standing conflict between two nations Leogard, where Cali and Galadin live, and Sarvonne, a country across the sea. I do wish the author had given an better explanation or more of a backstory to this, as I felt like it was tossed into the mix in order to give the character's something else to fight against. I would've appreciated more of a purpose there, but that's just me. I think that's the one thing keeping me from calling this a 5 star read.

I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a fantastical romance. No cliffhanger ending and, although this is part of a series, my understanding is that each book can be read as a stand-alone. 'Twas a lovely story.
